Monsoon Rains

There are two recognized rainy seasons. The South-West Monsoon, from June to August, is the principal rain supply for Kerala. The second North-East monsoon, usually called 'Thula-varsham' (=Rain in Thulam month of Kerala native calendar) lasts from October to December. These rains mainly benefit the eastern areas of the south Indian peninsula. Kerala gets a share of it, due to the cool mountain range in its eastern border. This monsoon is almost regularly accompanied by cyclones that originate in the Bay of Bengal in the east.
